“We shall not cease from exploration and at the end of all our exploring will be
to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.”

Karen J. Curnow
CI Founder

Karen Curnow has worked with senior executives and teams, providing leadership development, team-building, and cultural diversity services since 1980.  Having worked and lived in France, Turkey, Kenya, Austria, and New York prior to her work in the D.C. area, Ms. Curnow has served both business and government as executive and team coach, organizational effectiveness consultant, university professor, and training director.

Grounded in transformative learning research, Karen’s approach to coaching, facilitation, and training integrates the use of language, emotions, and our physical experiences as instructive tools.  Karen articulates her coaching philosophy as follows:  “The best coaching builds capacity.  While coaching can and should focus on effective actions for the challenges the leader is facing, if that is all it does, it has lost an opportunity to build capacity for the next, still unseen challenge.  Coaching that creates transformational, capacity-building change will help the leader further develop an alert and relaxed mind, shift nimbly as business requires, and develop stronger connection, meaning, presence, and impact.”

Clients Karen has served include:  Bayer Health Care, Aerospace Corporation, Boeing, Evolent Health, Discovery Communications, Inc., VISA International/Inovant, Crown Central Petroleum, Exxon, SAIC, multiple federal government agencies (State, Justice, EPA, NASA, and many others), George Mason University, Georgetown University, the Federal Executive Institute, and many other corporate, university, and government organizations. Committed to supporting new innovators with global impact potential, Karen also coaches TED Fellows as a member of the SupporTED coaching team as well as Fellows from the Unreasonable Institute. Karen has also trained future coaches as a senior faculty member and mentor coach for Newfield Network and Georgetown University.
